Let’s start with why.

I believe that within us all lies an untapped, unrealised, and unbelievable capacity for growth.  We all have the potential to be so much more than we believe.  I believe that we can all be happier once we acknowledge this truth; we can all be happier once we start to move towards the best version of ourselves; we can all be happier when we unite our thoughts, words, and actions.

Like Mahatma Gandhi, I have come to believe that:

‘Happiness is when what we think, what we say, and what we do are in harmony.’

I have come to believe this.  It wasn’t always the case.  I used to be miserable, depressed, fat, self-loathing, self-medicating, bitter, unhappy, volatile.

As I write this today, I’ve achieved things that I thought could only ever be accomplished by other people.  It’s not a boast; it’s simply the consequence of learning, reading, watching, observing, struggling, and living.  Living to become a better person.  Living to be a better version of who I once was.

I believe that this is only ever possible once we reach out for help.  No one is an island.  I asked for help because, the only truth left to me was the fact that I needed it.

Today my life is different.  It’s about service: to my family, my students, my friends, my podcast listeners, to anyone who would benefit from coaching to become happier.  Being of service to others is the most important aspect of my life.  Being of service is what unites everything that I strive to do.


What is Happiness Coaching?

Many people approach me about happiness coaching because they feel that they are stuck in a rut.  Often they will say things like: ‘I think that life is about more than this’, or ‘I wish I could say what I really want from my life’, or ‘I do things that don’t really excite me’.

My response is always: I believe that we can all learn to be happier.

‘Happiness’ is a short way of saying ‘fulfilment, contentment, and joy’.  Typically, people embark on the exciting journey of happiness coaching because they want to feel happier.  We all want to experience fulfilment, contentment, and joy in our lives.  However, we are often simply confused about how to implement the steps needed to do so.

This is where I can help.  My coaching strategies utilise a wide range of techniques from a variety of academic disciplines.  Through coaching, clients learn to empower themselves as they grow towards such happy outcomes as:

  • Achieving a specific goal or ambition
  • Changing career paths and trajectories
  • Improving physical and mental health
  • Mastering confidence and self esteem
  • Cultivating happiness in their lives
  • Growing happy families.

Regardless of your specific ambition, through happiness coaching you will learn to become a leader of your own life.  You will become empowered to live life on your terms while developing the mindset to approach challenges with perspective, resilience, humour, and happiness.

I have a degree in English Language (and Literature).  My Master of Arts degree is in Critical Theory.  I also hold a PGCE in Secondary English.  My interest in coaching first started when I completed a programme called Leading from the Middle at the National College of School Leadership.  My final presentation for this was on the impact of coaching and mentoring of staff.  In 2013 the former NCSL became The National College of Teaching and Leadership.  I have been a teacher since 2000.  I am currently a Teacher of English at a wonderful school in Cheadle Hulme.
